  1. Why are you interested in joining Stereoscope? 

  1. What skills or experience do you have in relation to the position you’re applying for and for the magazine more generally? 

  1. What is your favourite arts magazine, catalogue or book of recent memory? 

     (2) Also include: 

  • Your name and pronouns

  • Year of study and degree 

  • Something which represents your creative interest. Your own work, or work you admire. Feel free to attach a portfolio, website, Instagram, or anything you feel represents you and your interests. 

  • A selfie. Interpret this however you like! 

    (3) Attach your response to one “Position Specific Question”, answering all parts of the question. Please find role descriptions on page 4.

Position-Specific Questions

Junior Photography Editor: 

  • Suggest a theme for an upcoming issue with a brief statement and include a series of 10  photographs from any source that represents this theme.  


Junior Literary Editor: 

  • Suggest a theme for an upcoming issue with a brief statement and include a short series of literary pieces and photographs from any source that represents this theme. 

  • Include a writing sample under 500 words. Interpret this however you like. 


Junior Special Collections Editor: 

  • Suggest a theme for an upcoming issue with a brief statement and include a series of 10 photographs (web link or photo ID) from St Andrews Special Collections online photo library that represents this theme.  

  • Research the story behind one of your chosen photographs. Write some reflections on the image in relation to the chosen theme under 200 words.


Junior Treasurer:

  • Summarise how you might approach sourcing money for the magazine (advertisements, sponsorship, securing donors). 

  • Describe a vision for a Stereoscope fundraising event. 

Graphic Designer: 

  • Suggest a theme for an upcoming issue with a brief statement. Using Adobe InDesign or another software, produce 2 graphics relevant to this theme. Submitted graphics should include a poster and instagram post example.

  • If applicable, include a piece of your existing creative work. 



Layout Editor:

  • Suggest a theme for an upcoming issue with a brief statement. Using Adobe InDesign or another software, produce a four-page spread including photographs and words from any source which reflect the theme.  

  • If applicable, include a piece of your existing creative work. 



Social Media/Website Editor:

  • Suggest a possible event and design a post and story for socials (Facebook and Instagram.)

  • Outline the steps you would take to promote this Stereoscope event. 

  • Take a look at our current website and create a writeup under 200 words on how you would contribute to the curation of the page.


Events:

  • Suggest 2 possible Stereoscope events and outline the steps you would take to plan these events.

  • Include vision boards or any supplementary content you find relevant.


Committee Role Descriptions


 

Photography Editor: 

  • Seeks out photographers to discuss potential submissions. 

  • Curates Submissions.   

  • Helps to decide how photographs are presented in the magazine. 

  • Works alongside Special Collections and Literary Editors to shape the theme and creative direction of each issue. 

Literary Editor: 

  • Seeks out writers to discuss potential submissions. 

  • Finds subjects or featured interviews relevant to the theme of the issue. 

  • Works with writers to edit and shape literary content. 

  • Edits and verifies all written content of the magazine. 

  • Works with the Photography and Special Collection Editors to shape the theme and creative direction of each issue. 

Special Collections Editor: 

  • Explores the Special Collections photo library to find submissions for the magazine. 

  • Works with St Andrews Special Collections to maintain and improve access. 

  • Helps to decide how photographs are presented in the magazine. 

  • Works with the Photography and Literary Editors to shape the theme and creative direction of each issue. 


Treasurer:

  • Sources money for the magazine (advertisements, sponsorship, securing donors). 

  • Creates a budget and manages the accounts along with the editor. 

  • Works alongside other committee members to organise fundraising events. (exhibitions, parties). 

  • Seeks out stockists. 

  • Takes lead in SumUp shifts at pop-ups, exhibitions, parties, etc. 

 

  Graphic Designer: 

  • Uses Adobe InDesign to design graphics for social media posts, posters, merch, and logos.

  • Works with the rest of the Editorial team to shape the aesthetic and conceptual approach to graphics.

  • Works closely with the Social Media Editors with timing and transferal of graphics to online delivery. 

Layout Editor: 

  • Uses Adobe InDesign to design the layout of the magazine. 

  • Works with the rest of the Editorial team to shape the aesthetic and conceptual approach to the layout. 

  • Works with Social Media/Website Editor to design the website.

Social Media/Website Editor:

  • Maintains a consistent and cohesive social media presence.

  • Works with all members of the committee to create content reflective of the work of all teams.

  • Works with Layout Editor to design and update the website.
